Continuing with our weekly spotlight on Local artisans whose products we carry in store. This week we will showcase Watercolour On Barnboard Designs ....owned and operated by Local Artisan and painter Joan Kent. Having always had a passion for painting but never seeming to have the time and patience to practice, it wasn't until retirement at 70 that she was able to pursue her interest . Seeking a medium she decided on barnboard .Painting on barnboard gave her paintings an interesting and pleasing look . Joan first does a replica on paper prior to painting on the barnboard. Painting on barnboard has its limitations and challenges as watercolors absorb in to the barnboard and don't flow as they would on paper or other mediums.
Joans main themes are nature and woodland related and meld very well with the use of barnboard as the medium .
