A Water Watcher is a responsible adult designated to watch the water when children are present. This applies especially in locations where there are no lifeguards, such as backyard pools, hotel pools, and beaches.
Why do we need a Water Watcher? Because "when everyone is watching the pool, no one is watching the pool." Drowning takes seconds to happen - having a specific person in charge of keeping their eyes on the water makes it much less likely that a child will slip in unnoticed!
A water watcher card like this one can help the group keep track of whose responsibility it is, so that there is no confusion. I recommend using one of these whenever a group of people including children is near water. There should be a Water Watcher on duty even during non-swim times, such as while everyone is having a snack and when families are loading back into their vehicles.
This simple trick can save a life!
I'll be passing these out for FREE at the City and Baby YQL trade show this Saturday in Lethbridge, AB. Hope to see you there!

Eyes open, mouth closed - or in this case, smiling! ๐ Breath control is the top priority during your child's ISR lessons and is the first thing they learn. Great care is taken to ensure that every submersion is safe!

A great article about water watchers, and worth the read! Take-home message: Always have a designated water watcher when your kids are in or near water because it takes SECONDS for a child to slip into the water unnoticed.
