What's the old skill you can do that young people can't? I can make change in my head in seconds and I'm no math whiz. My high school job, parking lot attendant , before debit cards. Cassette mix tape, TV channel knob...even tying shoes. What can you do that young people have no idea about? Shane

The new Energy City Metro Ballpark has been given the stamp of approval from the Western Canadian Baseball League.
The new venue, which has been the subject of major delays over the past year, is now ready to host a game for the first time when the Cactus Rats take on the Okotoks Dawgs on Thursday, June 17. This comes after a formal decision regarding play at the new ballpark was rendered at the WCBL's Board of Governors' meeting on June 16.
"We have seen the progress made by the Cactus Rats organization over the last number of days with fulfilling facility and league obligations, as well as the presentation of a plan to carry out the ballpark project to completion," said WCBL President Kevin Kvame. "For the good of the league, we feel it is important to give the Cactus Rats organization enough runway to do that."
The decision states that the Energy City Metro Ballpark's field of play meets the minimum standards of the league, which will allow the team to host games for the duration of the 2026 season.
However, the team's current occupancy permit with the City of Spruce Grove will only allow for teams, an umpiring crew, and support staff to attend. Fans are not yet allowed in the ballpark.

Parkland County is exploring bylaw changes to deter littering and illegal dumping.
This comes as a motion tabled by Councillor Jason Doucette on June 9, 2026, directed administration to review Parkland County Bylaws related to littering and illegal dumping occurring on roadways, in ditches, and on public and private lands to identify opportunities to strengthen deterrence. Doucette says that his motion was motivated by a recent incident that saw a commercial operator dump waste in front of a residence.
"In early April, our neighbourhood was visited by a dump truck whose operator felt it was necessary to dump a load of mixed waste in front our neighbour's home and into their ditch," said Doucette. "That incident stirred discussion in the neighbourhood and brought forth a renewed interest from myself, to look at our dumping and littering bylaw to find opportunities to strengthen deterrence, and to possibly make Parkland County an unfriendly area for the bad actors leaving their waste problems here."
Doucette says he has also personally witnessed some of the County's day-use areas left with "mountains of litter" for staff and other residents to clean up. He says he believes that the majority of local littering and dumping issues are the result of individuals from outside the County, and that occurrences of dumping on active roadways have also become a problem for motorists.
