I was one time, telling a single friend of mine, that my 7-year-old son didn't want to eat his peas before dessert, and that he was being stubborn while I waited to clear the dinner table and start the bedtime routine for him and his brother and sisters. She then made a comment that no parent would like to hear. She said quite simply: "I, my children, will give them no choice; they will listen to me and there will be no compromise!" She then started giving me advice and criticizing me for being too permissive with young children. This discussion with her reminded me of the time when I was a young girl and didn't yet have children. Similarly, I never missed an opportunity to criticize parents whose children were unruly, disruptive or noisy, especially in public. In short, I too thought I would be a perfect mom even before I had children! It's funny because I'd completely forgotten about this episode.

Over the next few days, I thought about this question for a long time: why would someone who doesn't have children assume that he or she would be a perfect parent?

In the present era, it is all too easy to become fixated on our differences. We tend to emphasize what sets us apart rather than focusing on what unites us. However, if we truly desire to create a better world, it is essential to build bridges between individuals. 🌍✨
