Hello gang here is a nice to know post FYI... as you may have heard i am closing shop and will turning to more elmering...

So here is my first post to try to help... It is HAM RADIO related since in setups like Flexradio we spend a lot of work on our pcs.

PC power supplies now come with most or ALL power cables plug in. Some 8 pins , some 6pins, etc...

Did you know diff generation power supplies have different 6 pin pinouts, but they ALL use the same plugs keyed the same way.

There are 4 different 6 pin pinouts they are all used for HDDs or SSDs, but NONE are compatible...

Thus if like me you keep a bunch of old ones in a box and try to use them later with a newer p.s., you WILL get a dead pc stuck in crowbar protection, and may blowup something in my case let's in my fans and an M.2 to SATA adapter 😞 !

So be carefull and look at my attached pictures for more info.

ARLS002 "Space Sailors" Seeking Download Help from Ham Radio Operators



A group of students at Cornell University is seeking participation from radio amateurs who are equipped with satellite stations for help in listening for signals from a retroreflective laser sail that is scheduled to be deployed later this week. The sail is currently attached to a 1U CubeSat that was launched early Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from the International Space Station, but will separate and become its own free-flying spacecraft equipped with four tiny "ChipSat" flight computers that will transmit telemetry data back to Earth.



This is the first flight of their ChipSats, and it is this data that the students seek help detecting, according to Ph.D. candidate Joshua Umansky-Castro, who has an amateur radio license, call sign KD2WTQ. The light sail's ChipSats will be transmitting data using the LoRa digital protocol on 437.400 MHz. The sail, stowed within the CubeSat, is expected to be released a couple of days after deployment - tentatively this Thursday, December 4 - and will likely function independently for no more than 48 hours due to the drag created by the sail.

UPDATE: thanks to feedback from Thomas DL2RUM, we confirmed that command 29 IS available in the 7610. It is not listed in the 7610 CIV Manual, but it is documented in the 7610 iq reference manual.

Many had been asking about splitting civ commands between the MAIN and SUB on icom Radios, to control them as two fully separated radios from apps or external devices.

This even causing major issues and incorrect protocol reactions on 9700 sat m9ds.

Well unknown to many even at icom America, icom finally did implement a solution in the 7760 with command 29.

I checked and could not find this command in any other radios like the 7700, 7850, 7751, 7800, 7610, 7300... it is not shown in the 7300mk2 ci-v manual, but please keep in mind neither was the command 28 (now listed in 7300mk2 ci-v manual) in the 7300 ci-v manual, but command 28 WAS available on the 7300 from day one... so if you have a 7300mk2 I would try command 29 and give us your feed back, heck I suggest we test it on next firmware versions of 705, 905, 7300, 9700...

The image below is a clip from the 7760 CI-V manual. It clearly shows the new command 29 format that is different from standard CI-V command format, inserting the 29 and radio selection (00 main, 01 sub) between the headers and commands to point to main or sub.... followed by the usual command format... this is a big change to the protocol... it also opens the door to fix major ci-v issues like on 9700 in sat mode.

Users been looking for that it means the apps and/or external CI-V devices could now have simple ways to FULLY control both the MAIN and SUB of the radios.

Does not apply to all CI-V commands, look for circled black 29 in CIV table of the 7760 CI-V manual.

If command 29 is not used commands are applied as before.

Please send us feed back of your tests of this, don't have a 7760 (yet ! 😜) or 7730mk2 (yet ! 😜) to test these...
