Seeing and photographing the aardvark is the dream of many African safari enthusiasts. This unusual species of animal is so difficult to see during a safari that many, especially beginners, are not even aware of its existence.

Aardvarks are predominantly nocturnal animals. They spend most of the daylight hours in a burrow and go out in search of food only in the late afternoon. It is because of their nocturnal lifestyle that aardvarks are so difficult to see on safari.
