Congratulations to USW 2009 members at Stella Jones for ratifying a new collective agreement. Thanks to the relentless determination of the bargaining committee. Highlights include;
• Six-year agreement
• 4%, 3%, 3%,3%,3%,3%
• Uncapped COLA Protection in the last year
• 3% extra in year 1 to all maintenance
• $3500 lump sum payments
• Shift Differential increase
• Bereavement leave increased from 3 days to 5 days
• Minimum 2 weeks' notice for temporary lay-offs
• Improved contracting out language
• Improved severance language
• JHSC paid leave increased from 8 hr to 16 hr./year
• Weekly Indemnity increase of $50/wk
• Vision care increase
• Physiotherapy increases
• Chiropractor increases
• Hearing aids increase
• Implants covered
• Orthodontic max increases
• Mental Health First Aid attendants

Had the privilege to stand shoulder to shoulder with the striking USW 1-1937 members on strike at Western Forest Products LKSM Limited Partnership in Campbell River and speak to the membership about the six-month-long strike to protect from contracting out their work to non-union crews. Fantastic solidarity with members, other unions and the community.
One hundred and five (105) members of the United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 have been on strike against their employer, since June 6, 2025. Many issues remain outstanding, including wages and contracting out, as the members seek to renew their agreement on the same terms that 95% of USW coast forest workers have already ratified.
We will never accept contracting out good-paying union jobs. Our families, our communities depend on them. We'll win this fight! When we fight…we win!
