One of my favourite’s from last year. I tend to lean more towards birds when it comes to my photography, as a birder that always came naturally to me. But every once in a while, I’ll spot one of our native ungulates with my camera ready (In this case a little blacktail doe) and do my best to capture their essence.

Unlike many other species I come across, our local blacktail deer never fail to look directly into my lens when I bring out my camera, always so inquisitive with an err of majesty and caution.

It may already be clear from my profile picture, but these are my favourite shots from my trip to the raptor centre. Barn owls have always been one of my favourites, getting to see them up close and personal was a lovely experience.

Their heart shaped faces are just so sweet. I’m so thankful this one allowed enough time for some nice shots during it’s flight demo.

Male Rufous Hummingbird enjoying a drink from one of the many feeders in my back yard. These little guys are by far the bravest visitor to the yard, even more so than the occasional hawks and kestrels.

These shots were from a summer or so ago, I remember waiting hours set up in this spot so I could get the perfect lush green background when he finally came to drink
