Ron Hextall has been fired as general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers.

From NHL.com:
'"The Flyers organization has decided to relieve Ron Hextall of his duties as executive vice president and general manager," Flyers president Paul Holmgren said. "We thank Ron for his many significant contributions, but it has become clear that we no longer share the same philosophical approach concerning the direction of the team. In light of these differences, we feel it's in the organization's best interests to make a change, effective immediately. I have already begun a process to identify and select our next general manager, which we hope to complete as soon as possible."'

This coming after a 6-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs and, even before then, a struggling start to the 2018-19 season, answers the speculations of many flyers fans and on watchers seeing the ingredients for a firing either on the bench or in the front office.

Shea Weber could make his season debut for the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes at Bell Centre.

Weber had an "arthroscopic procedure to repair a torn meniscus" in his right knee on June 19 and wasn't expected to return until December.
"I think the way things are going right now, if everything continues to go in the right direction, I think the medical staff and everybody feels that Tuesday could be a possibility for Shea to come back," coach Claude Julien said after practice Thursday while in Buffalo.

Weber was named Canadiens captain Oct. 1 and has not yet made an appearance on ice this season. He sustained a season-ending injury to his left foot on Dec. 13 and had surgery on March 13.

Despite their captain being stuck off-ice, Montreal is 11-7-4 but has lost its past two games. The Canadiens are to visit the Buffalo Sabres Friday.
