There is a reason I went MIA from photography and content on Instagram. It stopped serving any business purpose. Being passionate about motorsport and wanting to do content as a job was proving impossible living in Canada.

That’s why I have been writing on LinkedIn for the last two years, slowly becoming that weird guy on LinkedIn. I really don’t care, business-wise, this has accelerated my company’s growth.

How do you wrangle over 250,000+ people in one day? You call one man, Steve Somermeyer, Head of Safety Patrol at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

If we are being honest, it takes more than one man to manage the experience of a small city.

I had the privilege to sit down with Steve before the Indy 500 kicked off.

Steve’s story was fascinating:

➡️ When he first tried to work at IMS, they didn’t have applications (only for friends, families, and neighbours).

➡️ He started by parking cars and wanted to be involved because he loved the cars.

➡️ Transitioned to managing people and fans.

➡️ Transformed the Head of Safety role and improved the fan experience.

➡️ Despite doing this job since the '70s, the elation and excitement were always there during race day, except during the pandemic years when the experience couldn't be replicated.
