Let’s talk about something we don’t discuss enough in aesthetics—how fillers can cause long-term inflammation that lingers for years, even decades.

I speak from personal experience. Over 20 years ago, during a training course, I had filler injected into my tear troughs. At the time, it seemed like a great way to refresh my under-eye area—but fast forward to today, and I’m still dealing with the consequences.

Even though the filler has since been dissolved, I’m left with persistent puffiness and an indent of hollowness—a subtle but frustrating reminder that filler treatments are not always as temporary as we think.

This isn’t about scaremongering—it’s about education and informed choices. Fillers are often marketed as quick fixes, but we need to stop and think about what we’re putting into our faces and how that might look—not just tomorrow, but years down the line.

So often, fillers are overused and overdone, creating a cycle of adding more and more product to ‘correct’ perceived flaws. But the reality is, fillers aren’t your only option.

Advancements in aesthetics mean we now have other options that work with your skin to stimulate repair, collagen production, and hydration—offering natural, long-term rejuvenation without the risks of chronic inflammation.

If you’re considering treatment, my advice is this—choose a practitioner who can offer you alternatives, not just fillers. Someone who will take a holistic approach and prioritise your long-term skin health, not just quick fixes. 01/19/2025
