During dental school I was fortunate enough to spend 2 weeks at Weeneebayko Hospital in Moose Factory providing dental services to the Cree indigenous community there.

While there I was met with nothing but smiles, laughter and hospitality from the indigenous community. They invited us ice fishing and for a dinner of moose meat and bannock.

They treated everyone staying in their community with respect and we need to do the same. What happened at the residential schools in this country is terrible and we need to make good on the reparations we promised them. We need to start treating them with the respect and dignity they deserve🧡

I would encourage everyone to watch the Canadian movie Indian Horse. Released in 2017, it portrays the treatment children received at residential schools and how society treats indigenous people in general.
