I see so many sectional couches on Facebook Marketplace that read “This didn’t fit in our space.”
I remember when I first began my journey as an interior designer, visiting people's homes filled with apartment-sized Ikea furniture that was often too small for the space.
Adequately sized furniture and area rugs are so important yet so often overlooked. Hiring an interior designer to do a simple furniture plan to determine the scale of pieces can go a long way before making big purchases!

Some of my favourite moments happen when opposites come together.
An antique desk and the stylist’s own classic No. 811 Bentwood Chair by TON design placed within modern architecture creates a balance that neither element could achieve alone. The clean lines of the home allow the character of the furniture to stand out, while the age and texture of each piece bring warmth, history, and a sense of place.
For a well travelled client, these details matter. A home should hold evidence of the places you’ve been, the pieces you’ve collected, and the stories that have shaped you. The goal is to thoughtfully layer old and new in a way that feels personal.
For Kinglet Perch, this contrast was intentional, creating a home that feels curated rather than just decorated.

Before a space is built or finished, it’s first understood through materials.
Interior design is about far more than selecting finishes that look good individually. It’s about understanding how texture, tone, scale, light, and materiality interact together to shape the feeling of a space.
This stage of the process is where concepts begin to feel tangible. Samples are layered, refined, vetoed, replaced, and reconsidered until the palette feels cohesive not only visually, but emotionally.
Every material contributes to the overall atmosphere of the project. How the space will feel to move through, gather in, and live within every day.
Not avoiding you, just in the middle of doing what I love. ✏️

The most successful renovations don’t start with picking finishes. They start with asking better questions.
How should this space function? What isn’t working? What would make everyday life easier?
Good design is about understanding how people live and creating a plan that supports them.
Before the first material is selected or the first wall comes down, we’re thinking through the details that shape the entire experience of your home.
Because the decisions you make at the beginning impact everything that comes after.

From checkerboard tile and striped upholstery to custom millwork, brass accents, and moody tones, every detail was designed to balance nostalgia, warmth, and modern functionality to this restaurant in the heart of Kelowna.

Kinglet Perch.
For this project, Studio Kaiser was engaged by the architect team to thoughtfully edit and build upon the client's existing collection of furniture and decor for an editorial digital magazine feature in .
Our role was to create a cohesive story throughout the home, layering in ancillary furnishings, decor, and botanical elements that felt connected to both the architecture and landscape.
In these quieter spaces like open shelving and built-in display units; we focused on warmth, restraint, and a sense of ease.
Each piece is selected to complement the home's natural palette and create moments that feel both intentional and lived in.
