🔥 Fired Up Friday: See the Weekend as a Growth Opportunity
Sometimes when the pressure is on, you can spot those that innately exude leadership. Once as district manager, I showed up to a busy store on a weekend. The boss was off, so it was up to the rest of the team to do the job.
I stood outside the store, observing silently and unnoticed what was happening. One of the sales people had stepped up, they were stepping in, helping with customers, leading the floor, coaching people after interactions. I made note of her immediately, and had a conversation with the store manager upon his return from vacation. We go that associate into the Assistant Manager program, and they moved up in short order.
Sometimes the busiest moments reveal the brightest leaders.
Have you ever discovered a star employee during a weekend rush?

🔥 Fired Up Friday: Match the Mood
Setting the tone for your people can make the difference of having a low or high energy day. If you notice the energy dragging, jump behind the counter, crack some jokes with customers, smile, set a lively tone. Within minutes you'll see how the teams energy can jump up, and customers will leave smiling.
It's also important to identify if there's a team member that's just not in the mood today, and can't be influenced. Sometimes they need a different, non customer facing task, or maybe a day off to recharge. You may say you're short staffed if you send someone home, but you'll loose peak productivity if they stay and drag everyone else's mood down.
I've done this, your team silently thanks you with no negative mood, and the person who just wasn't into it today also thanks you - they can recharge and come in the next shift energized and ready to go.
Your vibe sets the tribe.
What’s your go-to move to reset the energy?
Motivation Monday: Empowering your team with trust is the true hallmark of Leadership.
Giving someone responsibility, while being there to help, will build trust.
Allowing your team to solve customer complaints without you makes their job easier.
It builds their confidence, trust and makes the day run smoother overall.
Motivation Monday: Trust takes time. For repeat customers, start building it now.
At Radio Shack, our motto was: "You’ve got Questions? We’ve got Answers." I've kept this throughout my career because answering questions builds trust. Even if you can't sell today, you'll be the go-to for future needs. And next time, they might buy from you because you helped them before.
