Writing tests will always give a you a better understanding of your code.

If your team doesn't know who to ask when they're missing information, that is an organizational issue.

At the very least, there should be an unblocker who can figure out where to look.

Whatever you call them, be it scrum master, product manager, or lead. I don't really care.
