Choose your cue for the HIP HINGE
Not every cue is a one-size-fits-all - for some it will click, and for some it will cause confusion, and that’s why it’s important to build a toolbox of different cues and teaching tools when working with different humans!
The 3 cues listed aren’t the only ones available to use, but these are 3 that have come up with my athletes in life this past week …
01. Push butt back to wall behind - this gives a physical landmark for someone to move their body to (you could even have the physically touch the wall as they push back)
02. Spread the cheeks - this one might be a bit aggressive but it sure is clear!
03. Push hips back like you’re closing the top drawer of a dresser - gives individuals a visual and a comparison of when they’ve potentially used this movement in everyday life
Cueing is actually such a great way to get creative as a coach - if one cue doesn’t work, it doesn’t mean the person will never get it, you just need to dig into the toolbox to find something else that’s relatable for them so you can give them that lightbulb moment💡
P.S. it’s generally the sillier, relatable, and external cues that are going to be the most memorable!
