Remembering those who have, and continue to serve.

Lest we forget.

This week for Clinkscales' Corner we recognize Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax for everything they do in our community!

Big Brothers Big Sisters facilitates developmental relationships between a carefully selected adult and a young person facing adversity. Intended to challenge growth and provide support, these relationships expand possibilities for youth, igniting their potential.

Consistent, positive interactions, over a period of time with an engaged adult improve social emotional competence, mental health and well-being, and enhance connectedness in school, community and work. Ultimately, this results in young people better prepared to fulfill their potential.

This week for Clinkscales' Corner we recognize Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Halifax for everything they do in our community!

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Halifax is a charity which serves thousands of children and youth at 7 different club sites in Cole Harbour, Dartmouth, Sackville, and Spryfield. The Club hosts breakfast, food security, after school, summer camp, leadership, education, and youth drop-in programs.

Many Club kids feel their Club is their “second home,” and a safe and supportive space to develop healthy relationships, overcome barriers, and to learn from positive role models.

Club sites across Greater Halifax closed this spring due to the pandemic, but they reopened in July to serve kids in their summer day camps! The Boys and Girls Club is also engaging kids across the municipality by hosting free, online summer camps. The Club is busy preparing for its after school and youth drop-in programs this fall.

Through the Club’s programs, through relationship-building and mentoring, it strives to create a sense of belonging. The Club allows kids be free to be themselves despite their daily challenges, and is one of their core values. With social isolation and physical distancing the norm, a sense of belonging and connection have become even more important — and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Halifax is ready to adapt and serve children and youth!
