A beautiful kitchen is great, but a kitchen that works beautifully is even better. That’s why the Work Triangle (Sink → Stove → Fridge) is one of the most important principles in smart kitchen design.

Keeping these three high-use areas positioned for easy movement creates a kitchen that feels natural, efficient, and frustration-free. When you can prep at the sink, turn to cook at the stove, and grab ingredients from the fridge without dodging obstacles, everything flows better.

Aim for 3.5 -14 feet of space between each point of the triangle, and make sure nothing, like an island, tall pantry cabinet, or doorway, blocks the path.

If your layout doesn’t allow for a perfect triangle, focus on designing functional zones: Prep Zone, Cooking Zone and Clean-Up Zone

Thoughtful workflow planning not only improves how you cook, clean, and move through the space, it also makes your kitchen feel bigger, more organized, and far more enjoyable to use every single day.
