Norma the Sassy Seagull | SaltSpray Design 06/11/2026

Norma - Coastal Folk Art With Attitude

Long legs. Strong stance. Absolutely no interest in blending in.

Norma is the kind of seagull who has seen things, survived things, and still turns up looking faintly unimpressed by the whole performance.

She is weathered, slightly awkward, and completely herself.

After a long and fairly dramatic life, she may be showing her years — but her legs are still her best feature, and frankly, she knows it.

That is the charm of Norma.

She does not try to look elegant.
She does not try to look polished.
She does not ask whether she belongs on your shelf, railing, mantel, or desk.

She simply arrives.

Part coastal bird, part attitude problem, part reminder that getting older does not mean getting quieter.

Norma is one of my handmade quirky critters — sculpted in paper mâché, layered, painted, and finished in weathered coastal colours.

Lightweight, sturdy, and made to live somewhere visible.

Because some pieces do not decorate a room quietly.

They start conversations.

Handmade. No two alike.

Some women do not disappear all at once.

They disappear by becoming agreeable in tiny, socially rewarded ways.

A softer answer.
A smaller laugh.
A neutral room.
A swallowed opinion.
A body hidden before anyone comments.
A preference explained so thoroughly it no longer sounds like a preference.

And everyone says she is doing well.

That is the problem.

Edited living can look very responsible from the outside.

It can look like maturity.
Good manners.
Success.
Taste.
Peacekeeping.
Being easy to love.

But inside, it can feel like slow absence.

Soul Decor: At Home in Your Own Skin is about that quiet disappearance. And the return. Not through grand reinvention.
Through ordinary acts of inhabiting:

Choosing what feels true.
Keeping what remembers you.
Letting your home show evidence of your life.
Allowing the body you actually have to participate.
Becoming less smooth.
More visible.
More here.

Preorder is available worldwide on Amazon until June 15.

A life can look fine and still feel strangely uninhabited. That is one of the quiet truths behind Soul Decor.
Not failed.
Not broken.
Not dramatic.

Fine.

The bills are paid.
The house functions.
The people are cared for.
The emails are answered.
The face is reasonable.
The calendar is full.

The whole thing appears to be working. And yet. Somewhere inside it, you may feel like you have become less visible to yourself.
Still there, obviously.

But softer around the edges.
More edited.
More useful.
Less odd.
Less rested.
Less honest.
Less here.

That kind of absence is hard to explain because nothing is technically wrong.

But your body knows.

Your home often knows too.
