🤝 World Oceans Day is an opportunity for France and Canada to reaffirm their shared commitment: to protect the oceans, today and tomorrow.

🔹 Historic progress

In January 2026, the entry into force of the Treaty on the High Seas marks a major milestone for international ocean governance, strengthening cooperation between our two countries.

🔹 Strengthened collaboration

The recent appointment of an ocean expert in France–Canada relations, based in Halifax, demonstrates our commitment to strengthening scientific and environmental partnerships.

🔹 Initiatives following UNOC

One year after UNOC in Nice, the IPOS platform reaffirms its central role in ocean sustainability. Furthermore, Ocean North has become the first Canadian member of the Paris-based Ocean & Climate platform, symbolizing our shared ambition.

🔹 A shared goal: 30% protection by 2030

France and Canada are committed to protecting 30% of their marine areas by 2030, an ambitious target for preserving biodiversity.
