We've got some pretty neat customers... long-time WIKE customer Ron has had some incredible adventures with his WIKE Canoe Cart and Towing Tee all across Canada! 🛶 🍁

Ron Sherk has used a Wike canoe cart to help him cross Canada by canoe and folding bike in both directions. From the B.C. border to Inuvik and from the Pacific to the Atlantic. To Ron it’s more about enjoying the day than reaching a particular destination. His journey began in 2013 when he sold his house and got rid of all his ‘stuff’ and began a totally nomadic lifestyle. This past summer he reached Cape Spear in Newfoundland, North America’s most westerly point. That wasn’t the end to his journey though, it was only another turn in his exploration of Canada, that has so far tallied more than 10,000 kilometres of paddling, 6,500 kilometres of pulling the canoe with a folding bicycle and 5000 kilometres of touring with the bicycle alone.

About the cart Ron says, “It has performed above expectations in spite of all the abuse I have put it through. At times I am pulling as much as two hundred pounds. I don’t use any brakes on downhills and have recorded speeds above 70 kilometres per hour. Other than the extra momentum you wouldn’t know the canoe is attached. I did though make modifications to the cart prior to beginning my travels. Due to the excessive weight the aluminum axle was replaced with one of stainless steel. I also added metal gussets to the plastic wheel mount assemblies. I bolted nylon loops to the side of the canoe in four places to accept the nylon strapping that holds the canoe in place. The strapping crosses under the canoe to the loops. That way it doesn’t impede with any storage access into the canoe, as it might if it was attached to the thwarts.” When afloat the bicycle is stored below the spray skirt while the bike and cart wheels and cart frame are stored on top.

Ron’s extensive journal can be found at https://www.nomader.ca/ . The canoe is presently stored in Saguenay, Quebec awaiting his return in the spring of 2023.
