Today we remember Chris Simon.

A warrior on the ice. A teammate. A protector. A guy who would do anything for the people beside him.

A couple years ago I had the honour of speaking in his hometown of Wawa. His family was there. They welcomed me in, shared stories, and gave me some incredible gifts, including one of Chris’ eagle feathers.

That meant more than I can put into words.

It’s easy to remember the player. The toughness. The fights. The presence.

But behind that was a human being, like all of us, dealing with things we don’t always see.

We say it’s okay to be not okay.
But we have to keep showing up for each other. Checking in. Having the hard conversations.

Thinking of his family today, and everyone who knew and loved him.

Rest easy, Chris. You are not forgotten.

We are heartbroken to learn about the passing of former Regina Pats goaltender David Reekie.

David was part of our hockey family — a teammate, a friend, and a person loved by many. His loss is being felt deeply across the hockey community tonight. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, former teammates, and everyone whose life he touched.

It’s never easy to find the right words in moments like this. Another young man, another teammate, another beautiful soul gone far too soon. We’ve now lost more than 200 players and members of the hockey world to su***de or overdose that we know of. Behind every name is a story, a family, and a community left trying to understand why.

David, we will remember your spirit and your love for the game. You will never be forgotten.
