Ruetz Country Market

And done. Even got a few yellow beans picked before the lights went too dark. But wanted to shed a little light on another aspect of market gardening. Timing. Timing of planting and harvesting. So normally we do succession planting. We plant peas, or beans or corn for example every eight to 14 days, sometimes even longer, depending on how the weather has been since we last planted. That way in theory you should have only one planting come off for that week for harvest. Remember that is in theory. But if the weather does different things it doesn’t happen that way. Right now there is a glut of peas. For us I counted about four planting ready all at the same time. So probably there is about 30 day’s difference from the first planting to the fourth planting that are currently ready. So there will be plantings we will completely skip over, since we have too many, and we know other growers are in the same predicament. Funny how just over a week ago there was such a shortage of peas, we were picking every pea we could find, doing re-pick just to have enough for our market and Justins and bam, the flood gate open and everyone has peas coming out of their ears. And opening up for u-pick is not an option which I know someone will suggest. That is one part of this type of farming you might not have realized. Have a great rest of your night, if you have not gone to bed yet. Got to have my bed time snack of these amazing bagels and grabbed a pop shoppe as a treat as I know that does not keep you awake.

I will be honest, sometimes it is hard to get motivated to go back out and pick. Started at 5:30 today to get two bushels of peas and some beans done as Paul was away picking up goodies, so getting the market all set up was on me. But hopefully two more bushels of peas tonight. If I don’t I will regret not going out tomorrow as it will be another two bushels to add in to all our other picking. We will see if it rains before I am done. But one thing is true, my head hits the pillow and I am out like a light.

What a beautiful day. Not raining here like some people have said it is pouring at their place. Our baking table is stocked up. Sourdough breads, bagels and NEW English muffins. Come give them a try. We also have some smaller 4 pack of regular bagels which are so good. Of course muffins, loaves, gluten free baking and more. Now that the produce department is expanding you will have to walk around the entire table to find everything. New today we have some sweet Nantes carrots, yellow zucchini, and early cabbage ( coleslaw anyone) to go along with the peas, cucumbers, green onions, large tomatoes, grape tomatoes, new potatoes, a few yellow beans picked this morning, strawberries, last week for them. And we have some large gorgeous bouquets of flowers. And we thought we would give it a try this week are already shelled peas. Not grown by us but this gentlemen has a machine that will harvest and shell them. So we have one pound bags of shelled peas for those that would like to enjoy peas when they are in season but have trouble shelling them for whatever reason. Find them in the fridge section beside the romaine. Only 20 bags available. Pick a couple up and you can throw them in your freezer so you can have some during the winter. We are here until 5 today. 82818 bluewater highway .

Thank-you to Wave Wonders for making this for us to give as a gift. Apparently I am color blind because the house is grey. 😁 Justin and Taylor now live closer to us. Yeah. Anyone know of a reasonable priced interior painter available sooner then later. Have. Reached out to a couple but they are booked.
