With Goderich Celtic Roots Festival and College arriving in town today, here's a look back at the 7 years that I have been making my intarsia pieces based on the always fantastic original artwork by Linda Wiebe Artist. I recent years Linda has based her designs on each of the four fundamental elements of air, water, earth, and fire. For last year and this year I decided to have a unified frame design with an inlayed motif of the year's chosen element. I'm hoping the tradition continues for the next two years so I will have made a set of the four elements.

These intarsia artworks are made by hand cutting each piece using various species of wood chosen for their naturally vibrant colours. There is no stain or paint used. Each piece is then painstakingly sanded, shaped, and fit together in an intricate puzzle. Each one takes over 100 hours and I have sanded off fingerprints whilst trying to hold onto tiny pieces at the sander, glued fingers together countless times, and spent way too much time searching for tiny pieces amongst the sawdust on my shop floor after they have flung themselves across the room in a bid for freedom from the sander!

This year's and last year's pieces are available for purchase. Buy both and we'll negotiate a deal! I will have the Goose and the Phoenix on display at my booth at the festival again this year but feel free to contact me to arrange a viewing if you're interested.
