Today marked the first day of the Discovery Healthcare Camp at Goderich Lions Camp Klahanie, and it was inspiring to see so many young people from communities including Mississauga, Waterloo, Guelph, Exeter, Goderich, and many others coming together to explore the exciting world of health care.

Our Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health continues to demonstrate outstanding leadership by engaging youth through enriching programs that spark an interest in health care careers. Their initiatives provide students with valuable hands-on experiences, meaningful mentorship, and a firsthand look at the many rewarding opportunities available in medicine and health care.

The Discovery Healthcare Camp is led by first- and second-year medical students from Western University's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, with support from the Office of Distributed Education. Together, they are giving youth a unique opportunity to explore medicine, patient care, and the many professions that make up our health care system.

Programs like this do much more than introduce students to potential careers. They build confidence, encourage curiosity, develop leadership skills, and inspire the next generation of physicians, nurses, paramedics, therapists, technologists, and countless other health care professionals. Investing in our youth today helps ensure strong, sustainable health care for our rural communities tomorrow.
