Hi CrossFit Goderich Family,
With the hot summer weather settling in, we wanted to share a few simple tips to help you perform your best and stay safe during your workouts.
Heat affects everyone differently—even experienced athletes. Some days, the smartest training decision is simply to adjust your pace, listen to your body, and focus on consistency over intensity.
💧 Hydrate Before You Arrive- Don't wait until you're thirsty.
Aim to:
* Drink water steadily throughout the day.
* Have 500–750 mL (16–24 oz) of water in the hour or two before class.
* If you've been sweating a lot, consider adding an electrolyte drink or tablet to replace sodium and other minerals.
🧂 Don't Forget Electrolytes
When you sweat, you lose more than just water.
If you're exercising for longer than an hour, working outside, or sweating heavily, replacing electrolytes can help reduce fatigue, muscle cramping, and headaches.
👕 Dress for the Weather
* Wear light, breathable clothing.
* Bring a towel if you're someone who sweats a lot.
* Consider bringing a second shirt/change of clothes for after class.
🏋️ Pace Yourself
*There is absolutely no shame in scaling when it's hot.
*Take extra breaks if needed.
*Slow your pace.
*Focus on good movement rather than chasing a time or score.
Remember: Fitness is built through consistency—not one workout.
🚨 Know the Warning Signs
Stop and let your coach know immediately if you experience:
* Dizziness or lightheadedness
* Chills or goosebumps despite being hot
* Nausea
* Confusion
* Severe headache
* Unusual weakness
There's always another workout tomorrow.
🥤 After Class
Continue drinking fluids over the next few hours and try to eat a meal or snack containing protein, carbohydrates, and a little sodium to help your body recover.
Let's make this a great summer of training! Stay hydrated, support your classmates, and don't hesitate to modify workouts when needed. The goal is to keep moving, stay healthy, and have fun.
