🇨🇦 Happy Canada Day! 🚒

Did you know? Canada’s first organized fire department was established in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1754 after a series of devastating fires threatened the growing colonial town. It remains one of the oldest organized fire services in North America.

Today, we’re proud to celebrate Canada’s rich firefighting history and the generations of firefighters who have continued the tradition of serving and protecting their communities.

Happy Canada Day from all of us at the Gananoque Fire Department! 🍁🚒

At it again! 💦🚒

Today, we wrapped up another school year with a cool down event at St. Joseph Catholic School-Gananoque. There’s no better way to celebrate the start of summer than helping students beat the heat and sending them off with a few smiles (and a few splashes!).

We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of these year-end traditions and to connect with the amazing young people in our community.

Have a safe, fun, and memorable summer, everyone!

🚒 Training Night 🚒

This evening, our firefighters completed training in marine operations, portable pumps, and drafting water from our apparatus.

Ongoing training helps ensure our members are prepared to respond safely and effectively when our community needs us most.

Thank you to our dedicated firefighters for their commitment to serving our community.

Something interesting - From Firefighting history 🚒

Around 24 BC, Roman Emperor Augustus created the “Vigiles”; a force of approximately 7,000 personel responsible not only for fighting fires, but also for policing the streets and serving as night watchmen.

Without modern apparatus, SCBA, or hydrants, they battled fires using buckets, hand pumps, ladders, and hooks to pull apart burning structures and stop fire spread.

More than 2,000 years later, the tools may have changed, but the mission remains the same: protecting lives, property, and communities.

History reminder: Firefighters have been answering the call for over two millennia.
