Summer event alert: the is gonna be at the Alberta Free-Mo meet 2026! Come see some of our tables join a HUGE layout that fills a hockey arena at the Big Valley Agriplex in Big Valley AB, from August 14-16th, 2026!

Admission is by donation. This is a real modelers event, so anyone serious about the hobby ought to come see it!

More info at their website: https://www.calgaryfreemo.ca/alberta-free-mo

We've skipped this event for a couple of years, but we're back and in force for this summer.

Free-Mo is an international standard for modular layout building. The Big Valley event invites layout owners from around Canada and even the United States to exhibit their tables in a massive layout 😳 that takes over an hour to run an HO train on end to end!

In addition to the AFM meet, the Alberta Prairie heritage railway will be operating to and from Stettler that weekend, so its a great time to make a journey out to the deep prairies. The former CN Stettler subdivision is full of history and our display is right trackside of it!

We're stoked to be back this year and we can't wait to spend the weekend yapping with our friends in and out of province at this historical location.

Grey Ghost! This wicked Athearn KCS SD40 made it to our mainline this afternoon. Just another Thursday at the club!

Summer is in full swing at the club!

We're open (almost) every Thursday from now to September, with Saturday sessions at the end of the month!

Come visit us in the basement of the Fort Saskatchewan CN Station from 4PM-7PM on Thursdays, and wrap up June on Saturday the 27th from 12PM-5PM!

There's been a lot of work done at the club and many scenes and track finished up, which we'll be highlighting in the next few posts.

Here, we've finally installed this acreage on the inside curve before our yard, which, while mostly freelanced, is inspired by a real property that existed here in Fort Sask before the North Saskatchewan River Bridge, and yes, they did own horses!

Hey Fort Sask. Let's talk about something for a moment.

We're a model train club located in the basement of the Fort Saskatchewan CN Station. We're a volunteer organization, a registered society in Alberta, and we're leasing the space from the City of Fort Saskatchewan who owns the building, alongside our neighbors at Millers Ice Cream.

Lately and in the recent past, we've gotten trash dumped or finding its way into our basement-level entrance. This is usually innocuous, as our entrance is in a bit of an alcove that naturally stuff blows into from the wind, but we've also gotten potentially hazardous items, including medical and glass materials, and items consistent with drug paraphernalia.

We've put signage up, but this doesn't always prevent this.

Obviously we cannot stop people from searching for shelter or the wind from blowing, but at the end of the day, its our volunteers who have to clean this up, at their own risk, and just as importantly as a model hobby display, often families with children are visiting our club.

We make sure to clean this up each time before we open, but we can't be vigilant 24/7 and neither can the hardworking City staff who have dozens of other properties to look after.

No boo-hoo woe-is-us story here, nor are we calling for a witch hunt, as these are also people who are humans just like us- just a community call for people around the 99th Avenue area to be vigilant and report these things if they come across them:

-Active public drug use
-Discarded paraphernalia
-Vandalism
-Unsafe conditions

to either the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP (non-emergency line: 780-997-7900) (call 911 only if imminent, life-threatening danger or crimes in progress)

Or file a Fort Report: https://www.fortsask.ca/city-hall/fort-report/
