hey you know what! IF we had more vets we'd have less dog attacks

Less injured or sick dogs
Less dogs in season
Less dogs escaping to get at dogs in season
Less dogs period - there'd be more alterations done
Less hungry puppies and dogs
Less sick and dying females with pups
Less dogs going without vetting
Less spread of disease and contagions like say parvo
Better access to vetting resources

More vets actually means less cost, not just because the billing becomes competitive but because with more animals being able to be altered, the head counts go down and actual abuse can be easily discerned from "unable to access vet care" ...

We need - more vets
ALL of us do.

Yes it is FRIDAY - not FIRE DAY :P
Helped a bunch of peoples out this week with food, and advice and resolution of problem situations.

Camper is doing great
Had a pup brought in due to police seizure - that's always "fun" to figure out and manage - "Take on a dog; Blind!" But he's learning the ropes fast and realizing it's not a bad life ...

Had some chats with ministry and a group down south as well - and trying to work on/out what we can do and method of approach for addressing vet shortage realities which persist across the nation. It's not a regional issue, it's a national one and he math - isn't mathing. We lose more vets per year than we certify, the certification process is ridiculous and there are only 5 schools across the nation managing the issue, each of whom graduate about 50 humans a year and half of them are international students who are not taking the courses (or spots in the class) to use that knowledge in Canada and why we have constant shortage of vets but feel the need to educate everyone from everywhere else - is - a mystery.
It's also hard for kids to look at it and say "I want to become a vet!" knowing the courses are TEN YEARS of higher education, of being removed from their communities, and being poached by big city money, and bait.
So been having some discussions and trying to work with some people to sort out options and possibilities to begin working on that front. Not a short or easy process but - I'm of a mind that someone needs to be making waves for humans, animals, and process and that's not going to happen unless someone "in the know" dedicates some effort and guts to the fight. For the moment that looks like "doing nothing" but there is "stuff" being worked on.

No requests to take on or assist with fire dogs - which is good because I do NOT have a list of fosters who would be available to house and assist with dogs in those situations and conditions - Be fabulous if there was a list and humans in the area willing to be "on call" for that stuff if you WOULD be willing to be put on an emergency foster in case of fire list - we as a community should probably build one - If you'd like to be on it, and would be willing to house a fire dog for someone displaced - that's a project we could all stand to work on as well.

Never a dull moment.
Always more to be being done.

Been a fairly quiet week around these parts - had a few bags of kibble go out into the world, had the camper show up, but otherwise - pretty quiet week. (not that there's complaints for that!)

We will be doing another draw this month from the names of the emt donors, I'll find a goody and post some pics for you later on.

She's still not a huge fan of wet ... Does enjoy a walk downtown though.

No shirts sold in the recent couple weeks ... are we not supporting the effort to bring a vet truck into the region? I'd of thought everyone would be on that bandwagon and we'd have t he bulk of those shirts sold by now - but nope, not as yet. Still have lots of shirts in all the sizes available for purchase.

Did the June draw, got the winner for that stunning little piece, thank you to everyone who finds a minute and the generosity to assist the project and contribute to the efforts.
We are a small community, but the reach we have is enormous, and the impact on the region, community, and extended area is great. It takes a village, and everyone at the table to do their part, and as always I'm very grateful to everyone for their contributions of time, energy, effort, and funds which enable the project to be continued. If we all assume "someone else will do it" nothing will ever get done but if we each step in and do our small part - together we make grand changes.
