Hello everyone,
I am pleased to introduce Heather Shankland, a local filmmaker and editor who has officially taken over the care of our front gardens. After she kindly began weeding our garden anonymously last year, we have now partnered with her so we can focus on our other two levels of planting.
Please join me in welcoming Heather to our community space. We are incredibly grateful for her help and the genuine kind spirit she brings to Elora.
Hi everyone,
Please pop over and say hi to Linda at Karger Flea. Open on Saturdays, where you can find a little vintage, hand blocked cushion covers, cotton quilts, metal pendant lamps and some odds and ends for below cost. Our pewter coloured pendant lamps are 50% off. ( You can easily paint them to any colour you wish)
We will be adding products weekly.
Open today from 11-4:30pm located just behind our main store and adjacent to the lovely Wild Tart patio.

Happy spring everyone!
We finally got out for a paddle yesterday just here in town. It was heaven on earth. We are so fortunate to live in a place surrounded by nature. Let's try to keep it that way. At home our container grown lilacs are in full bloom. You can smell them down the street. Last night's moon was breaking. This rare Blue Moon is showing just in time for Meadowfest music festival in Fergus this weekend.
Come over for a visit, we have so much new in the shop at Karger and will have Karger Flea open from 11-5 every Saturday located in the stone cottage behind the shop for some bargains on quilts, bits and pieces and pewter coloured pendant lamps.

I recently came across old photos of our building’s development and wanted to share the history of how this project came to be.
Designed in collaboration with our direct neighbors, Lynn and Walter and built using local contractors and engineers, the project focused on sustainability. We prioritized greenery, including rooftop vegetable gardens, solar panel hookups, overhangs that bring us light in the winter and shade in the summer, hydronic heated flooring and the beautiful BC greenhouse so we can continue to grow plants.. While the structure appears large, the apartment is 1600 sq ft, complemented by 3000 sq ft of deck space.
I recently faced criticism suggesting our project is no different from the new condo developments planned across the street. I disagree; our building was a planned consolidation of work and home intended to improve what was then a neglected area of East Mill Street. At the time, the area lacked sidewalks and lighting, and was adjacent to a hydro station that posed health concerns. Our goal was to revitalize a run down building and to get more foot traffic to this section of town through sustainable growth, which differs significantly from the larger-scale condo developments going along the river.
You can be the judge of our progress and intentions.

I am writing to express my concerns regarding the new development proposed for downtown Elora. A four-story condominium building is currently planned as a renovation of the historical La Fontana building.
I don't understand the classification of this project as a renovation, when it is clearly a new build as well as the potential environmental impact these large buildings will have (once lot #19 is developed as well) on the river. Furthermore, I would like to understand why this project is proceeding given the established three-story height limit we strictly had to adhere to. There is a meeting at Town Hall today at 3:00 PM for all concerned residents to discuss these issues. There is never a dull moment in our beautiful village.
