The decision was made to move forward with Affordable Housing on the second parcel at the Herb Link site in a 7-6 vote.
While this vote didn’t go the way I’d hoped, the debate brought a number of important conversations on:
- The impact and importance of public green spaces in neighbourhoods
- The value and need for affordable housing to be equitably distributed across the city
- A consistent and fair process for engagement with all communities
I will always continue to advocate for a truly equitable approach to our housing goals.

Today I formally submitted a letter to the Edmonton Police Commission to address serious operational gaps at the Edmonton Police Service tow lot. As our city grows, the current facility has reached a capacity limit that is now directly impacting public safety and municipal enforcement.
I am advocating for the relocation of the tow lot to be prioritized as a key capital project in our upcoming four year budget.
The Impact on Public Safety
The data is clear: parking enforcement requests have risen by 45 percent over the past two years. Because the current lot is full, there is a backlog of 560 vehicles waiting to be impounded. This lack of space creates a bottleneck that prevents officers from effectively responding to enforcement needs across Edmonton.
Protecting Our Neighborhoods
Beyond enforcement capacity, the current location is no longer viable due to the Yellowhead Freeway Conversion Program. Design changes mean that approximately 180 vehicles, including heavy tow trucks, are now routed through the heart of the Prince Charles community and a playground zone every day.
My advocacy centers on finding a larger, more strategic site that improves policing efficiency while removing industrial traffic from residential streets. Relocating the tow lot is a practical solution that will improve service levels for all Edmontonians and ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with the needs of our community.
