As part of its commitment to keeping newcomers at the centre of everything it does, the Newcomer Centre's Employment Services team stepped back from day to day operations on Friday, June 26 for a strategic planning session, Designing an Employment Service Model for 2026 and Beyond.

The session provided an opportunity to reflect on current practices, identify barriers and opportunities, and begin shaping a more integrated, innovative, and responsive service model that better supports newcomers, employers, staff, and community partners. The discussions aligned closely with the Newcomer Centre's 2025 to 2028 Strategic Plan, focusing on collaboration, continuous improvement, data informed decision making, and helping newcomers thrive socially, culturally, and economically.

A heartfelt thank you to Laurie Hauer, Director of Programs and Services, for her exceptional leadership, thoughtful planning, and the tremendous effort invested in preparing and facilitating this inspiring session. Her guidance created a meaningful space for reflection, collaboration, and forward thinking.

The enthusiasm, openness, and commitment demonstrated by the team reinforced a shared vision of strengthening services, fostering innovation, and building sustainable solutions that create lasting impact for newcomers in Edmonton.

Together, we are not only delivering services, we are helping shape a stronger, more welcoming, and community driven future for newcomers.
