We know avoidance fuels anxiety. Here’s some messages you can teach your kids to help switch their perspective on anxiety — from something that should be feared, to something that tells them that what they are doing matters. 🤍

I hear it ALLLL the time from kids when I’ve asked them why they haven’t shared that big scary hard thing with mom & dad. They always tell me — “my parents will FREAK OUT! There’s NO WAY I can tell them.”

Now, as a parent, I feel your difficulty too. It’s HARD to stay calm and steady when they tell you that big thing.

What’s a parent to do? Be “ask-able.”

When I’ve talked to parents of teens who seem to just connect well, the parents always say: Master your poker face. Don’t react. Zero facial expressions.

Swipe right for more ways to be an “ask-able parent” to keep the conversation going 🤍

In my SOURDOUGH era: We are nearly three weeks into this teachers’ strike. Let me tell you —there are some adults who need to get their acts together (you know who you are). My husband and I are both teachers so this all feels weird and scary. And our kids are around ALOT - just like they are for you. The last time I felt like this was during the pandemic. Y’all were baking sourdough and I was SO jealous — I had just popped out my third kid, we were between houses, and I was stretched unbelievably thin. I wasn’t coping well at the time, so there definitely wasn’t any sourdough baking for me then. Fast forward five years, the kids have grown (there is hope young parents - your life will settle, in its own busy way). And if I can’t do what I love (work with kids), I guess I’ll just bake sourdough. Then eat copious amounts of it. 😆
