We had such a great time at Calgary's SUPERTRAIN that we forgot to post about our display!

We did go see the Brian Keay's Wolverine Lynx Railroad. This railroad is the largest CTC installation with our system to date and Brian has been a tremendous resource with regards to validating the system and finding root causes of issues over the years. Our Signal Suite software operational mode is quite mature because of customer's like Brian.

It took some time to get production tweaked for our IR detection sensors. We started off with a low 50% success rate without needing rework, meaning production rates were lower than desired. But now are at almost at 100% meaning we can produce far more for our customers!

The IRSB sensors are attached to a flexible printed circuit (FPC) cable. The IRSB is tiny! We have a customer who has successfully installed them between the rails of their Z scale layout! We recommend using a 1/8" end-mill router bit in your power drill to make a narrow slot for the sensor, negating the need for a large round hole under the track. Adding this slot in finished track and ballast is a minimal disruption to your scene!

The IRSB sensitivity can be adjusted by pressing a pushbutton on the control board. Simply place one of your most difficult rolling stock to detect (eg flat black tank car) over the sensor and then hit the calibrate button. The IR energy level will be adjusted just high enough to capture the car but not your operators hands.

The sensor can be connected to two currently available controller boards:

The IR-PAD for standard detection applications. The IR-PAD controls two IR sensors and provides two independent outputs for each sensor, which is handy for applications such as optical detection at the boundary of two track circuits/block. The Free-mo community employs this clever tactic with signaling.

The XIR board is a Plug n Play component enabling IR crossing operation with our IR crossing kits. Multiple sensors can be used in crossing applications where turnouts are near your crossing (We are model railroaders and we have to cram everything close together!). Any track arrangement is possible with our Plug n Play system. Each XIR manages one sensor and are interconnected via RJ11 ended modular cables and XIR-ROUTER boards which interconnect the sensors based on turnout position. In this way, we have NOT found a track arrangement we can't handle! We will post more on this soon!

The 2026 Amherst Railroad Hobby Show is a wrap! The massive winter storm that came through the region had a significant impact to the show with many vendors leaving after the show on Saturday. We stuck around on Sunday but definitely found most people stayed away!

We got to Boston last night, where they had 17" of snow! Our flights are still scheduled for this despite most being cancelled.

We got to present our infrared crossing system and MSS products on Saturday with our new puzzle piece demo. We will have a better presentation at our next show!

Spent this last Saturday being dispatcher on Norman Skretting's CN Clearwater Subdivision.

Norman was an early adopter of our signal system. We ran 27 trains across the layout in 5 real hours including numerous work trains. Norman was a dispatcher for CN and as such had a need for prototypical signaling on his layout. Thus why he came to Signalogic Systems. CTC has really helped operations on the Clearwater Subdivision. As a dispatcher, you definitely learn about not setting routes too soon on this layout. The full one minute time-locking is appropriate for the fast clock used here and can really tie things up!

It was a pleasure as always. Thanks again Norm.
