Bistro Praha is a legendary Edmonton institution serving up eastern European food with old-world vibes. On any given night you’ll find a mix of symphony goers, the hockey jersey set, and probably some artists inside - the restaurant has survived a fire and moved twice. Now that we think about it, Bistro Praha is probably invincible. They reopen Feb 28 after a temporary maintenance closure so get in there!

Have the tartare, have the schnitzel, have the fried bread, and stay for creaky chairs and  enormous photo of a mountain scene. The friendly mood is unbeatable - oh, and maybe you’re lucky enough to be sitting on the chair Joni Mitchell autographed?

There is no end to the beautiful objects you can weave, craft and make at Fern’s School of Craft !

• The school offers a variety of top notch workshops and supplies in traditional fibre crafts like weaving, rug hooking, macrame, and rug braiding. The classes sell out quick, so make sure you’re ready for those class drops!

• It’s all run by master weaver Fern Facette, and warning: you’re going to start setting kijiji alerts for your very own loom.

• The space is shared with Former and Latter fabrics so there’s also more textile and craft fun to be had!‍‍

Edmonton is a haven for bibliophiles, and Porchlight Books () is a perfect example. Started by writer Michael Hingston, and rumour has it he used to sell books straight from his house, but only when the porchlight was on.

• One of the newest gems in Edmonton’s ever-growing indie bookstore scene, this Mill Creek shop is a bright and modern addition to 99th Street, just east of Strathcona.

• After you’re done browsing, don’t miss Frank’s Community Pub () next door, plus the Colombian coffee roasters () is right across the road, so you’ve got lots of spots to read your new finds in peace.
