There's a BIG difference, but it's easy to miss if you're not feeling into you body. When I'm co-dependent you are my source of safety. "You" can be anything from a person to a substance. I find safety in something else and I depend on it to keep me centered. When I'm co-regulating with you I am feeling MY safety that your presence nourishes. When I walk away from this experience I don't feel panicked or lost, I feel nourished and filled. I have all this internal gooey-ness from my time with you. Again, you can be a plant, a yoga practice, or a person. Telling the difference is helpful for repairing your nervous system because co-dependent relationships keep us on edge and quite activated.
