Curious about Polyvagal Theory… but not sure how it connects to chiropractic?

That’s exactly why we created a free introductory course.

If you've been hearing terms like nervous system regulation, protection mode, patient connection, or adapting your approach to different people — but want a clearer understanding of what it actually means in practice…

This is a solid place to start.

Inside, you'll find a series of short lessons introducing chiropractors to Polyvagal Theory and how it relates to clinical care, communication, and the human nervous system.

Accessible. Practical. Thought-provoking.

You can find it on the home page of The Informed Chiropractor.

MacDonald Safety Corridor Protocol: Polyvagal Chiropractic 06/04/2026

After 27 years in practice, there is one question that has fascinated me more than almost any other:

Why do two seemingly identical adjustments produce completely different responses?

You've probably seen it yourself.

Two patients present with similar findings.

One takes a deep breath, their shoulders drop, and they leave feeling lighter and more connected.

The other seems guarded and doesn't respond nearly the same way.

For years, I viewed this through a biomechanical or bone-on-nerve lens.

Then I was introduced to Polyvagal Theory.

It changed how I viewed the nervous system, patient responses, and ultimately how I approached chiropractic adjusting.

In this new blog, I share how these observations led to the development of the MacDonald Safety Corridor Protocol and why I believe the future of chiropractic may lie in understanding not just where we adjust, but how the nervous system receives the adjustment.

Some of the topics covered include:

✅ Neuroception and chiropractic
✅ Why some patients respond differently to the same adjustment
✅ The Safety Sandwich
✅ Force Rapport vs. Force Delivery
✅ Polyvagal Theory in practice
✅ The Five Locks of the MacDonald Safety Corridor Protocol

If you're interested in neurologically focused chiropractic and helping patients move toward greater regulation, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Sometimes chiropractors overwhelm patients with too much information.

But patients usually respond better to clarity, simplicity, and relevance.

When people understand how care connects to their daily life, they stay more engaged.

Real change always requires focus — and focus usually requires letting go of something familiar.

Whether it’s in health, business, or personal life, growth often means changing habits, routines, or patterns that got you to where you are now.

That’s the part most people struggle with — not because they lack knowledge, but because change requires giving up something that feels comfortable.

When you’re willing to make that shift, even for a short period of time, real progress becomes possible.
