Ticket Tossers
05/22/2026
🚨 Victoria Day long weekend in Alberta.
6 fatalities. 25 injury collisions. 122 impaired drivers off the road. Over 1,200 tickets issued. One weekend.
Alberta RCMP were straight about it — aggressive driving, distraction and speeding are back to pre-pandemic levels. Victoria Day is the unofficial start to summer and enforcement ramps up hard from here.
Fines are up 50% since March 2026. Every ticket landing on an Alberta driver right now costs more than it ever has. 1,200 drivers now facing lost Good Driver status and up to $2,600+ in insurance increases over 3 years.
16 more weekends just like that one are coming this summer.
Most of those drivers had no plan. The ones with Shield already had someone going to work the moment the lights came on.
$25 a month — all summer long.

Alberta just launched its 120 km/h speed limit trial this week on a 22 kilometre stretch of Highway 2 south of Leduc — just south of Edmonton.
The trial runs throughout summer 2026. Out of 59,000 Albertans surveyed — 68% supported the increase. If it goes well the province plans to extend it to all Alberta divided highways.
But before you put your foot down — speeding fines are fully in effect at the new limit. Going even 1 km/h over 120 is still a ticket. Trucks are not permitted in the far left lane where 3 or more lanes exist.
The limit went up.
The consequences did not go away.
