Olds RCMP reminds motorists to adjust driving for changing spring road conditions.

Olds RCMP is reminding motorists to use extra caution as spring road conditions can abruptly change in Alberta. Fluctuating temperatures during the spring can cause road surfaces to change rapidly throughout the day. Morning ice can become slush, standing water, or wet pavement by afternoon, compromising a vehicle’s braking and handling abilities. Potholes and debris exposed by melting snow can also create hazards for drivers.

Motorists should follow these safety tips reduce the risk of collisions:

• Adjust speed based on current road and weather conditions.
• Increase following distance to allow more time for braking on icy, slushy or wet surfaces.
• Remain alert for shaded areas, bridges, and overpasses where ice may take longer to melt.

Parking lots and residential streets deserve special attention, as melting snow and ice can create slippery surfaces while visibility may be limited by snowbanks, standing water or glare. Slowing down and scanning carefully can help prevent collisions involving vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. By adjusting driving habits to roadway conditions, together we can help keep Alberta’s roads safer for everyone.

Olds RCMP encourage safe practices for door-to-door interactions

Olds RCMP is reminding residents to take precautions when interacting with door-to-door salespeople, canvassers, or individuals offering products or services at your home.

While many door-to-door representatives are legitimate, residents should always prioritize their personal safety and comfort.

Olds RCMP encourages residents to consider the following:

• You are not obligated to open the door to anyone you are not expecting.
• Consider posting a “No Soliciting” or “No Door-to-Door Sales” sign at your residence.
• If you choose to answer the door, keep your door locked and speak through a closed or secured screen door whenever possible.
• Ask for identification and company information before engaging in conversation.
• Take time to independently verify any business or organization before agreeing to services.
• Do not provide personal information, financial details, banking information, or utility account numbers at the door.
• Do not feel pressured to make immediate decisions. Reputable businesses will allow you time to consider their offer.
• If an individual refuses to leave when asked or behaves in a threatening or aggressive manner, contact police.

Good day Rural Crime Watch members, just a reminder of this year Annual meeting, held this Thursday March 26th 2026 at the Mountain view county office at 7:00 pm. Memberships, renewals, and signs will be available at the door. We have a speaker coming to talk about security systems and one of the Red Deer county patrol officers is going to give a presentation on Crime Prevention through environmental design.
