June to September is Pride Season, when 2SLGBTQIA+ people and their allies stand in solidarity to advance the community’s rights and celebrate their many contributions.

At Dan’s Legacy, of the 1,282 youth clients who registered for our counselling, wrap-around and job-skills training programs in 2025, 36% identified as, or were allies of, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

We know that our support programs have a significant impact, as identified in a 2024 program evaluation study conducted by researchers at UBC’s Stigma and Resilience Among Vulnerable Youth Centre (SARVYC) with Dan’s Legacy:

“Dan’s Legacy addresses urgent needs (mental health, housing, food security) for BC’s marginalized youth, reducing severity and improving functionality. Its inclusive, trauma-informed approach empowers 2SLGBTQIA+ and Indigenous youth, fostering long-term resilience. For stakeholders, the program’s low-barrier, no-cost services and 37% wraparound engagement offer a high-return model for social impact. For legislators, it aligns with BC’s goals to combat the opioid crisis and support equity-deserving groups, with potential for province-wide scaling.”

Being trauma-informed means that our team has a clear understanding of the challenges faced by2SLGBTQIA+ youth, and workshops with community partners such as QMUNITY help us build this knowledge to better support our youth clients.

Keep your eyes out for events happening in your community over the summer, and Happy Pride everyone!
