So many people that need repairs are concerned “Will I see the seams?” or will I see the repair afterwards?
The answer is always the same: you will only see the difference in colour and texture of the piece you give me to install when compared to the existing carpet it is placed into.

Where do I get a piece of carpet for a repair?
So often I get asked on the phone, where do I get a piece of carpet for a repair? Usually this is from a tenant moving out of a rental suite and doing the right thing, repairing some small damage in the carpet. Most homeowners have spare carpet from when the carpet was installed, most rental suites do not have that advantage. Or if there is a spare piece of carpet in a suite it is used as a door mat and in such bad condition it cannot be used for a repair piece.
The closet is a great source of carpet for a repair! I can remove a piece of exactly the same dye lot of carpet, yes it has never been walked on and has no sun fade. But it is the closest match you will ever find, and if you get a piece of carpet that is close in appearance that can go in the closet. And you would be amazed to find that the difference just blends in the smaller the repair is.
Some rooms of carpet don’t have closets, now what? Sometimes we can take a small piece of carpet from under a baseboard heater. Recently we did a repair in a home that had been a movie set where the carpet in the room was stretched to find a piece of carpet that could be used as a repair piece. There is usually a solution that just hasn’t been thought of, give me a call and we’ll do our very best to find a solution to you carpet repair problem.

Usually carpets that are older than 15 years are a lot harder to stretch. The backings of the carpet were made differently making them more rigid and the backings of carpet gets harder and less flexible with age.
Fortunately the power carpet stretcher is able to take out ripples/wrinkles in even the stiffest carpet, this was the case today as the carpet was just over 20 years old and it resisted stretching. It resisted stretching so much it was like stretching concrete, or like stretching a sheet of plywood. There is no way a carpet knee kicker would have even touched stretching this carpet even for the man of steel. A proper stretch on carpet should last it’s lifetime.
Interesting fact is that likely the knee kicker was the reason that the carpet had the ripple in the first place. You see the knee kicker that most people are familiar with was designed only to be an assist tool to the power stretcher when installing carpets. Use of the knee kicker even in the hands (knees) of the most experienced installer will not get the carpet installed as tight as the use of the power stretcher. This is why carpet manufacturers have specified the power stretcher as the only tool to be used when stretching or installing carpet.
