Rich in story, this toile is based on the Chinese Folktale "The Peacock Maiden" available in my shop.

I read the story many times as a child, and a vivid scene was how there were seven sisters who would wear peacock cloaks that gave them magical abilities to transform into peacocks to fly from their home to a lake where they would bathe and swim. When they were finished, they would put their cloaks back on, dance, and then transform into peacocks to fly back home.
