A New Orleans Super Bowl wouldn’t be complete without honoring the city’s rich history. Steeped in tradition, the theme art you’ll see on digital game tickets, the official program cover, and at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans pays tribute to the Black Masking tradition—an art form born from resilience. For over a century, Black Americans were barred from mainstream Mardi Gras celebrations. In response, they created their own, a tradition that continues today.

Artist Queen Tahj channeled this powerful history into both the logo and theme art. As she explains: "African-American people, Black people, Black natives were never allowed to participate in the mainstream Mardi Gras that happened on St. Charles," Williams shared. "So we hit on the back streets and had our own kind of celebration. And that's what you still see today. We still practice that today, along with a lot of other traditions here in the city."
