On Tuesday, November 25th at 7pm, World Community is showing the documentary "The Hands that Feed Us" (103 minutes) by filmmaker Devon Cooke at the Stan Hagen Theatre, North Island College.
Starting at Amara Farm in the Comox Valley, Filmmaker Devon Cooke spent time living on farms across Canada asking the questions: “How do farmers make a living, and is this sustainable?
"The Hands that Feed Us" explores the endless challenges of making a living as a modern Canadian farmer; how they sell their food and how little control they have over the process and price. From small scale to massive debt, from farmer’s markets to supply chain, the film helps us understand why farmers work so hard and what happens if it all falls apart.
Filmmaker Devon Cooke will be in attendance.

On Tuesday, November 18th at 7pm, World Community is screening "They are Sacred"(75min) directed by Kim O’Bomsawin at Stan Hagen Theatre North Island College.
In Indigenous tradition, differences were not considered a disability but rather a strength that could benefit the entire community. This was the case for autistic people, who were considered to have unique gifts and a connection to the spirit world. As Indigenous peoples reclaim traditional knowledge and philosophies, they have important perspectives to share. "They are Sacred" gives viewers unique access to the world of an autistic child and follows his father’s journey dedicated to bringing traditional First Nations perspectives to the world.
