80 years ago, in 1946, when Comox was incorporated as a village, John Hart was Premier of BC. John Hart, a banker, moved from Ireland to Victoria in 1898 and was BCs 23rd Premier, serving from 1941 to 1947.
The first Premier for BC, after BC joined Confederation in 1871, was John McCreight, who served until 1872.
John Hart's most significant legacy on Vancouver Island is the John Hart Dam in Campbell River which began operations in 1947. The dam is situated on John Hart lake. After a successful career in politics and finance, John Hart passed away in 1957 🙏
