RAINFALL UPDATE: JUNE 14

Although we continue to experience significant rainfall, the Cochrane area has been downgraded to a flood watch from a flood warning. We are continuing to actively monitor the rainfall impacts within Cochrane and crews are responding as required.

Residents may notice water accumulation on Glenbow Drive. Please note that this is not an area of concern, as the water accumulation on the roadway is flowing as intended.

Cochrane Fire Services crews are out on the Bow River today participating in a pre-planned water rescue training exercise.

Residents are asked to continue to stay away from riverbanks and low-lying areas where the river can submerge pathways.

Please consider the following precautions:
- If you have a sump pump or backflow valve, ensure it’s working
- Check your swale for debris or blockages
- Clean out downspouts and ensure they are pointed away from your foundation

Speed Limit Adjustment: HWY 1A ‘Big Hill’
In coming days, motorists should anticipate a speed reduction for traffic travelling west on the big hill.
From the top of the down-grade to the end of the first curve the speed will be reduced from 80km/h to 60km/h. The remainder will be reduced further to 50km/h.
These speed limit changes reflect our commitment to ensuring the safety of both motorists as well as crews working on site.
Speed limits will be signed and will remain in place until construction of the HWY 1A improvements project is complete.
