Beckwith Tech Camp
It is with great sadness that we are announcing that Beckwith Tech Camp will no longer be offering live programming going forward. Due to multiple changes in the lives of the core team, it is no longer feasible to offer programming to youth in Lanark County. Over the past eight years of our existence, we have served over 300 youth from the Ottawa Valley of ages 10-18 including over 40 who identified having a disability. We are also immensely proud of the fact that 56% of our participants were female and have seen participants receive numerous awards, scholarships and opportunities through our camp's network. We thank Beckwith Township and the County of Lanark for making all of this possible, as well as Shopify, the Univ. of Waterloo, Hackergal, CP Computers, and Montague Township. It has been a wonderful ride and to see so many Lanark County youth now pursue opportunities in technology is what is was always about. You may not know all profits of the camp were always donated to the Rural FASD Support Network and we invite you to follow them and the great work they are doing to support vulnerable youth. However, the camp is not gone. Through all the lessons and materials gathered over the years, we are partnering with Beckwith Recreation to offer free online courses on computer programming for anyone interested in learning a computer language. We hope to launch those courses in the next couple months so keep following us here to learn about its launch. Thank you to everyone who liked us, followed us, and supported us. It is because of you a tiny little dream made such a huge impact. Rob
We wanted to share our congratulations to Charlotte, one of our instructors, for being named a Schulich Leader Scholar with the University of Waterloo. As seen from the below quote, she credits our little tech camp for helping in a small way that incredible accomplishment.
I wanted to let you know that I won the Schulich Leader Scholarship from the University of Waterloo, valued at $80, 000! I will be attending the University of Waterloo this fall for their biotechnology/chartered professional accountancy co-op program. I really appreciate the time and effort that you put into writing the perfect letter of recommendation for me. I also can't thank you enough for all the opportunities you provided me with that helped further develop my leadership skills and expand on my knowledge in STEM.

We are still accepting participants for our summer session Tuesday nights 7-8pm starting July 6 with Jennifer Takacs of Hackergal. Thanks to another donor, this session is now free to any participant. The session is on video gameboarding through Lynx Coding. Application, though, is learning how to do graphic layout entirely through using a computer language. Contact us at [email protected] if interested.
