“Lack of communication” is a frequently raised couples’ issue.
In Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT - pioneered by Sue Johnson et al), the issue is seen not as a LACK of communication, but difficulty in understanding WHAT is being really being communicated, with or without words.
In EFT we help couples see and understand their individual attachment orientation and strategies each has learned for emotional safety.
We also examine how these strategies can mask EFFECTIVE communication and contribute to a negative cycle in their relationship.
Attachment/cycle work through EFT is a really powerful tool contributing to mindful awareness both within and between partners.
