Heads Up Battle 2:
Expensive tests are not always better.
When it comes to colon cancer screening, the simple, cheap FIT test is actually the clear winner over the complex CEA tumor marker.2
Here’s why:
FIT test: An at-home test with 93% accuracy for detecting blood from polyps or cancer.
CEA test: Performs poorly for screening (as low as 3% sensitivity!) and is best used only for monitoring patients already diagnosed.
If you’re between 50 and 75, the FIT test is your go-to every 1-2 years. Stay proactive!

“My chest X-ray came back clear, so I’m fine.”
Unfortunately, that’s a dangerous assumption. While X-rays are quick and inexpensive, they have a notoriously poor sensitivity for early cancer detection. They often miss exactly what we need to find most.
In this head-to-head battle, the Low-Dose CT Scan is the undisputed winner. It is six times more effective at detecting lung cancer than a standard X-ray, finding tiny anomalies long before they cause symptoms.
Don’t gamble on “good enough” when it comes to your health. Get precision answers from the start.

Did you know your body has three primary safeguards to combat the uncontrolled cell growth caused by DNA mutations:
Self-Repair: The cell first attempts to repair its own damaged DNA.
Apoptosis: If the DNA cannot be repaired, the damaged cell undergoes a self-destruction process.
Immune System Response: If the first two defenses fail, the immune system deploys "elite forces" to fight back, including natural killer cells, T cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, and antibodies.

Is AI saving lives? While I’d love to take all the credit, analyzing complex genomic sequencing for 59 different cancers is a lot for physicians. That’s why we’re using AI helped researchers and physicians make tools like Cancan to detect tumor DNA in the bloodstream. It isn't magic, but with a 98% accuracy rate for negative results, it's a partner I’ve learned to trust in the clinic

Behind every statistic is a person I care about, and a life waiting to be lived.

The reality that cancer affects one in two men and one in three women is heavy, but our focus shouldn't be on hope. My job as a doctor is to help you squeeze more years out of your life, and more life out of every single one of those years. Whether it’s more time with the people you love or more moments doing what brings you joy, every day on this beautiful planet is worth protecting. Please, prioritize your health and stay on top of your regular screenings.

We are entering a new era where a simple blood test can detect signs of cancer growing down to just one millimeter. While multi-cancer early detection tests are not perfect and cannot catch everything yet, they represent an incredibly powerful technological shift in medicine. This technology is available now and will only continue to improve, marking the beginning of a golden age for screening.

Heads-up battle!
When it comes to prostate cancer screening, many patients assume the most uncomfortable option is the most effective, but that isn't always the case. While I still rely on both the PSA blood test and digital re**al exams, they each have their limitations:
PSA Blood Test: This is a convenient and widely used option. However, a high result doesn't always guarantee cancer is present, just as a normal result doesn't always mean you are in the clear. It has a detection rate of 4.6%.
Digital Re**al Exam: During this exam, a doctor feels for abnormal firmness or lumps. Despite its reputation, it is surprisingly less effective than the blood test, with a detection rate of only 3.2%.
In the modern era, the PSA blood test remains the more effective and patient-friendly choice for screening.

This one’s for the women: Mammogram vs. Breast MRI: Is one truly better than the other?

It is a close contest between two vital tools. While mammograms are the standard for most women due to their proven track record in reducing deaths, breast MRIs offer critical advantages for those with dense breast tissue or a higher risk of invasive cancers.

Ultimately, it is a draw because both have unique strengths. The most effective approach is often a personalized combination of both based on your individual health needs.

Women, ever wonder how effective are mammograms at detecting breast cancer? While they have successfully reduced cancer deaths by 20% to 40% for women aged 50 to 75, I believe most women should actually begin screening at age 40. It is important to understand the nuances of testing, such as how dense breast tissue in younger women can lead to false positives. Medical technology is advancing, allowing us to look far more precisely at breast health than ever before.
