With the economy down in recent years, and lots of people "forced" to look for work (as a contractor), it's more important than ever that you are very careful when choosing a roofing contractor. Insist that any contractor you're considering prove to you, at a minimum:

- They've been in business-as a roofer-for at least 3 years.
- That they have done at least 50% of their business on the type of projects (size, scope, expense) as the one you're proposing.
- That they've got a spotless record with the BBB.
- That they ca provide you with at least 200 satisfied customer references.
- They can provide you with a letter from major bank stating that they are a financially stable company.
